LOCATION

The 50-acre estate lies along the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail and overlooks the Rhône Valley. At an altitude of 650 feet above sea level, we are situated 20 km east of Orange and 35 km to the northwest of Avignon. Our vines are not only grown at higher altitudes than regular Vacqueyras land, they are also naturally isolated into a single plot, making the location exceptional: A belt of Mediterranean forest protects the environment and renders it well suited to organic farming under ideal microclimate and geographical conditions.

In 1990, the local appellation Vacqueyras was designated as a Cru of the upper Côtes du Rhone appellation, joining Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas. The decree resulted in strict limits on output, with a maximum of 37 hl/ha, but above all recognized the quality of the wines produced in the area, as well as the particularity of its terrain.

Vacqueyras is a village of 1061 inhabitants who live primarily on viticulture. With 1300 hectares (3212 acres) of vines, the appellation is shared among 45 individual wineries and 1 cooperative winery fed by 130 farmers. Le Clos de Caveau has 29 acres, situated around the estate, yielding red wine of the appellation Vacqueyras. Our Vacqueyras red wine is composed of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Produced only in exceptional years, the Vacqueyras cuvée Lao Muse red wine is made up of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. We also have 4 acres of appellation Côtes du Rhône situated nearby in Violes, from which we produce a red wine, as well as a rosé, both made up of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache.

DIRECTIONS FINDING THE DOMAINE
20 minutes from Orange, off autoroute A7 and the Orange Sud exit. Follow the signs for Carpentras, then Sarrians, and finally Vacqueyras. In Vacqueyras, at the traffic lights (pharmacy on the corner), take the Route de Montmirail for 400 metres. At the Pont du Rieu, take the Chemin de Caveau to the left. 1.5 km further, in an exceptional location at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, you will discover the property with its panoramic views… and its wines.
